Right around the time Cole Swindell got his record deal in Nashville in 2013, his father died. His passing resulted in Cole writing the hit song “You Should Be Here.”

Now eight years later, Swindell is singing the song in memory of his mother who passed away on September 13.

Cole told a Boston crowd over the weekend (9/18), “There’s no way I’m missing being up here in front of a crowd like this. These people have had my back since day one. She would want me on stage in front of a crowd like this. People who care. People who matter.”

He then asked the crowd to put their phone lights up in the air, and when they did, he said, “That looks like heaven,” and he performed the song.

As we reported when it happened, Swindell posted to his Insta stories with news of his mom’s passing last week (9/13), “Took this on the flight home to Georgia this afternoon,” he wrote on the photo. “Lost my sweet Mom today. I know she’s up there. Gonna miss her so much.”
