Jeff & Aimee in the Morning

Weekdays 5:00am - 10:00am

Jeff & Aimee are giving a Hats Off to a bike rider that defied all the odds.

Mike Cohen was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in 2004 when he was 18. After beating cancer, Cohen was still not out of the woods.

His heart would begin to fail shortly after. Desperately needing a heart transplant Cohen would get one from another incredible person.

The family of Navy flight surgeon James Mazzuchelli would make the incredible decision to donate his organs.

The 32-year-old passed away from complications from a helicopter training mission at Camp Pendleton. After a successful heart transplant surgery, Cohen would cycle 1,426 miles to meet the family of Mazzuchelli.

Christine Cheers, the mother of Mazzuchelli, waited at the hospital until every organ from her son was donated.

“That was the one I cared about most,” said Christine, in an interview with RD. As a serviceman and physician, James embodied the ideals of bravery and altruism. “James had such an amazing heart,” she says.
